Zombie Tools

Again, again many apologies for not posting in the past few months, I will endeavor to get caught up over the following week as I have some time on my hands and a lot of interesting topics that I want to write about. As my regular readers know I have been spending much of my time with weapons work in the past few months and I have collecting swords for test cutting. I am currently concentrating on double sword work, which provides extra reach, speed and is a bitch to defend against when sparring. Hopefully by working out both sides of my body/ brain, I can stave off Alzheimer's for another few years yet.

Given the continued interest in the Zombie apocalypse (and how well World War Z did in the box office globally), my sword teacher did pointed out the following site to me  - Zombie Tools, which make rugged handcrafted swords and knives for the serious use. If you have time, you can watch some of their test cutting videos where they cut bricks and sheet steel and the like. This is some seriously rugged equipment that will last a lifetime and the design has its own industrial charm. The site states that the original acid-etch finish was add a post-apocalyptic look and to cover up the grind lines, but now their grind lines are so good there is no need to obscure them, but it is purely for the look. My only gripe is that it is much heavier than the stuff you would see from Cold Steel or Hanwei.

Now I would not normally post on something like this on my blog as it is a little off-topic but if you spend some time to look on the website you will notice that the owners have used traditional swords for inspiration and have done versions of the Chinese broadsword, Japanese katana, wakizashi and tanto as well as Dadao. From a design point of view this is industrial chic. at pretty competitive prices.

I am seriously tempted to pick up a Taiji broadsword for my collection, but let's wait and see what Santa brings for Christmas. It will be a good tool to have if I were to fight feral pigs in the New Territories.
