There was a bit of buzz in the local newspapers here in Hong Kong earlier this month regarding Monica Wang - 王瀅 - who won a gold medal in San Hose at the 4th Wushu Championships organized by Kung Fu Magazine on the 10th June. She competed in the Taiji intermediate level competition demonstrating the Li Style Taiji Fan set. This event has been referred to as the Wushu world championships by some. She has been variously called the Taiji Beauty by Kung Fu Magazine or the most beautiful Kungfu Girl locally by the media here in Hong Kong.
During her interview, She mentioned that this Li Style Taiji was not widely practiced and she had studied wushu for five years and Taji for two years under Wu Bin 吳彬 (Jet Li's Sifu). Sifu Wu Bin mentioned that although Monica's background is in acting, she studied hard, her fundamentals were good and she had the potential to be the next big female action star.

This built on her previous win at the 2011 Wushu Finals in Hong Kong where she won in the youth division for her Chang Quan and swordwork. Monica was born in 1988 and originally from Anhui province, in 2007 she was accepted by the Central Academy for Drama 中央戲劇學院 in Beijing and majored in performing arts. It was then that she first came across martial arts.
